08 Oct BCHA Community Pauses to Remember October 7th
At BCHA, students, staff, and faculty stepped back from the usual rhythm of school life to commemorate the tragedy of October 7th, marking the day with reflection, learning, and connection.
Upper and middle school students came together for joint programming led by Maytal Lerner, the Banot, and the Judaics department. Students shared ideas, contemplated the weight of the day, and worked together to honor those who were lost.
On October 7th, Maj. Tzvika Kaminsky, a BCHA parent, spoke to middle school students about the power of togetherness in the times ahead, and about his work in the field of military technology. That afternoon, A, the grandchild of beloved Judaics teacher Livia Bronstein, addressed the Upper School ahead of their draft into an elite IDF unit. A spoke about the experience of moving from high school to Tzahal and the courage it takes to meet the next challenge.
The Banot also led a sticker initiative inspired by the movement that has taken hold across Israel. Students learned about stickers bearing the names and personal mottos of the soldiers, hostages, and civilians lost on October 7th, and about the importance of preserving their memories.
Together, the BCHA community carried the day’s memory forward, united in remembrance and in hope for the days ahead.
