BI-CULTURAL HEBREW ACADEMY

LOWER & MIDDLE SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS

For New Families

Applications for the Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy Early Childhood, Lower and Middle School programs must be submitted by December 20th, preceding the academic year of enrollment. Applications received after December 20th will be reviewed on a rolling basis, pending space availability.

IMPORTANT:
As of September 1, 2023, the state revised the age cutoff for incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten students. As per this new regulation, children must be 5 years old by September 1st to enroll in Kindergarten and 4 years old by September 1st to enroll in Pre-K for the upcoming school year. (Please note that at Bi-Cultural, next year will be considered a “flex year” and we will be meeting individually with any children affected by the new cut-off date to determine that they will be placed in the most appropriate class for the 2024-’25 school year. Please contact Bonnie Marcus at bmarcus@bcha-ct.org if you have any questions regarding this policy.) Thank you.

Step 1:

New families can begin the process by submitting an inquiry on our website. Once you have submitted your information, a member of the admissions team will send you account information and directions for how to apply.

Step 2:

Submit your application

Applications are only considered complete once all required forms have been submitted:

  • $100 non-refundable application fee
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Student photograph
  • Information/record release form
  • Student records from previous schools (for grades 1-8)
  • If applicable: copies of any prior evaluations, IEP’s and/or 504 plans

Step 3:

If you’d like, come for a visit!

Our Director of Admissions would be happy to give you a tour of our vibrant school and answer any questions that you may have.

Please contact Bonnie Marcus at bmarcus@bcha-ct.org to schedule a date and time for your visit.

Step 4:

Pre-K and K applicants

Local Families: We are excited to announce that we will be visiting schools within our local community to observe potential students in their home school setting. This approach will enable us to gain a holistic understanding of your child and observe how they learn, play, and communicate in their familiar environment. There is no need for special preparations for these visits, and they will serve as a replacement for the traditional “Meet and Greet” process.

Families from outside Connecticut: For families applying from outside Connecticut, we invite your children to visit BCHA for a “Meet and Greet.” You can expect your child to spend an hour at the school where they will have a  short screener followed by an opportunity to participate in a playgroup. There is no need to prepare for the “Meet and Greet.”

1st-8th Grade applicants

Applying transfer students will meet one-on-one with someone from the admissions team for a program readiness assessment.

Step 5:

Enrollment Contracts

New families to the school that have completed the entire admissions process and have been accepted will receive enrollment contracts by mid-February.
