Social Studies

Our BCHA Social Studies curriculum fosters historical curiosity through reading, writing, debate, research, and summative and creative performance assessments.  Units of study in the Sixth grade include the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Viewing them through the writings and artifacts that they left behind. In the Seventh grade, students explore the history of the United States in depth, digging deeper into a known history beginning with the Age of Exploration and Colonization and moving up to and including the devastating history of the American Civil War. 

BCHA students explore world history in Eighth grade, through a Euro-centric exploration of topics beginning with the Renaissance and ending in the history that unfolded after the Second World War. Beyond the textbook, BCHA teachers grow student interests in current events, geography through an annual Geography Bee, and our own personal Jewish histories through an Oral History Project in 8th grade that was developed in partnership with the Jewish Historical Society of Fairfield County. All of which builds a historically-minded student prepared for further exploration in high school.
